May 2007. A grassroots gathering of Upper Riceville Valley residents expresses a strong desire to come together to explore viable ways to preserve the distinctive beauty and livability of our area and to protect it from sprawl and development that continue to destroy the natural beauty of Western North Carolina. Scenic Riceville Advocates (SRA), a volunteer group from within this gathering, is formed.

October 2007. SRA begins working on means to provide information and resources for area landowners related to sustainable land uses; protecting open spaces; protecting slopes and ridges from dense development; protecting drainage areas from excessive sedimentation; promoting a return to more agricultural lands; and promoting policies
that ensure ecologically sound practices

February 2008. SRA issues a brochure and announces a web site at www.ScenicRicevilleAdvocates.org as a source of information for residents of the area.

Note: This website will be an ongoing and ever-changing project in order to:

Provide information for residents regarding options for land use

Serve the area by providing Community-Building Activities that arise out of the interests of Riceville Valley residents
